Behind the Scenes: Filming Engineering Excellence at Oceaneering, Rosyth

There has always been something about industrial environments that inspires me creatively. The scale of the spaces, the movement of machinery, the interplay of light and shadow, and the precision of skilled engineering all combine to create incredible opportunities for visual storytelling.

This week marked the first day on site at Oceaneering in Rosyth, beginning a new film project focused on capturing the people, processes and expertise behind their operations.

The first stage of any industrial production is about understanding the environment — taking time to explore the site, identify the key stories, plan the visual sequences and find the moments that will bring the finished film to life. Alongside capturing the first sequences, the day also included filming interviews and gaining a deeper understanding of the work carried out behind the scenes.

Industrial filmmaking is about more than simply documenting machinery and facilities. It is about revealing the skill, innovation and dedication of the people who make these environments work. From the smallest details to the largest engineering operations, every element contributes to the wider story.

The first day provided a strong foundation for the project, and I’m looking forward to developing the footage into a film that showcases the expertise, technology and innovation at the heart of Oceaneering’s work in Rosyth.
